Also this Bob is giving such an exquisite TRANSLATION in keeping with a Japanese feeling the humility yet strength of Hideki IMPRESSIVE ! all that said iHideki played solidly not brilliantly & to win well thats really sadly cynical a pump before the Olympics anyway no matter how will take the win

It's great that matsuyama won. I also admire the caddy's dedication to the course after the victory. However, even among the same Asians, the Koreans couldn't contain their own anger and destroyed the putter. What I want many people to know is that even among the same Asians, Japanese, Koreans and Chinese have different manners.

American media is so unsatisfied with the lack of flamboyant attitude from a champion. But it's always appeared to me that the Japanese are a humble and reserved people. Funny to watch them fish for it tho. Lol

I'm a Korean-American, an avid golfer. I live in Guam in South Pacific. I had to woke up at 4 AM Monday to watch the final round. As Asian I was rooting for Hideki. I was at the edge of my seat for a while when he put his 2nd shot in the water at the 15th. But, I just knew that this was his tournament. I'm so impressed how honest and humble Hideki is. Hope he wins many more majors. Congrats Hideki!

Ridiculous. He's a professional golf player, and he has been globetrotting around the world for the past 10 years or so and he can't even converse even in the easiest conversations. He has the time & money to learn. I teach English to kids & teens here in Japan. Some of my 10 years old students can easily get by in the USA. Unfortunately this is very typical among Japanese athletes. I speak 6 languages fluently myself completely self taught.

If he did translate Matsuyama’s thoughts exactly, the audience would not have understood them. That is why he had to interpret them, a job he did extremely well. He did the same translating the questions in such a way that they made sense in Japanese.

I’m Japanese and speak English. The interpreter did a terrific job in a way that he tried so hard to interpret Hideki’s thoughts and put them into his own words. With that being said, there were some miscommunications and mistranslations along the way (for instance, when the press asked ‘who are the athletes from your country(Japan) that inspired you growing up?’, the interpreter couldn’t translate well and Hideki answered like ‘there are some young inspirational Japanese players like Darvish/Maeda/Ohtani in baseball and I want to be (and I believe I am) the one that can inspire young kids when it comes to golf.’ And then the interpreter said ‘the people I admire are mainly baseball players’. Not blaming the interpreter as I said, just felt like explaining for Hideki. Anyways, Congratulations Hideki!

As a person whose native language is Japanese, I would say the interpreter/translator Bob's job here is also amazing. He is not a mere translator, putting Hideki's words in different ways and elaborating on what Hideki really meant so that native English speakers can understand. The Japanese language is subtle and sometimes difficult to translate into other languages. By only watching Bob's statements, you can easily have an impression that he (Bob) must be answering with his own words and ideas. Now that Hideki won the long-lasting major tournament, among others the Masters, I hope Hideki will start speaking English in front of the audience to be loved much more by American fans. Congrats Hideki, for this amazing victory!! Looking forward to your next major titles!!
