Congratulations Hideki Matsuyama! Great win, his touch in the third round was a joy to watch, but given the back story of this man the win is even better. He's also laid the foundation for Japanese players in the future not to mention inspiring young kids to take up the sport. Well done Hideki Matsuyama!

Why is it that Chinese athletes in America are fluent in English after less than two years here, but Japanese athletes can't speak any English even after ten years in America?

Emmy ...Japanese do not "struggle" with English. They struggle with nationalism, which makes the Japanese not want to learn English. That gives French people and Japanese something in common.

Congratulations Hideki for the win! I bet Japan is extremely proud of you for winning the Masters and exactly 10 years to the day for winning the Masters Amateur Championship. It's funny that on Thursday I was talking with some fellow golfer buddies and I mentioned that 10 under par could win the Masters this year and they all thought I was crazy as a loon. Well, I was right on the money.

Congratulations, as well, to the Members of Augusta National who had the foresight to create an exemption for the Asia/Pacific Amateur Champion. Hideki's win might not have come this soon, or if all, had it not been for them looking ahead and trying to grow the game in this way. Also, I wish the PGA of America would learn from the Members of Augusta how to conduct a championship, especially the live streaming of it.

Many Japanese recognize Hideki as a great golfer who has made mediocre performance that has palyed primarily in the US, since he had struggled to win a tournament for years. I believe this historic achievement will remind us of how a top-of-top player he actually is. Who could imagine a Japanese golf player has been celebrated at Augusta two weeks in a row. Nothing but magnificent!

What a great Tournament Matsuyama played! I hope it doesn't change him too much. Many golfers win their first Major and try to do too much, and in turn end up doing nothing. Almost shocking that this was his first win in four years! Best of luck to him. The Japanese are very passionate about golf. He did his country proud. He's the first, I have a feeling he wont be the last.

I know, I was thinking the same thing, I've seen so many first time major winners in golf, that end up completely disappearing after winning. I think that is what makes guys like Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods so special, those guys were never content with just winning 1 major. I was rooting for Hideki on Sunday, and so happy to see him win, but at the same time, I kinda feel like all of us golf fans have been cheated because of all of Tiger's injuries and personal problems, imagine what golf would be like if Tiger was able to just play golf during his prime years in his mid to late 30's??? Yes, I know Tiger had that nice 2 year run from age 36 to 37, but besides that short period, he was basically absent after age 32-33, and didn't win a major between age 32 and 43.

To all the people involved in The Masters, which I respect. I am very grateful for your support of this wonderful tournament over the decades. As a Japanese, I was very happy to see Matsuyama's victory. He only said "Thank you!" in English, but he was very stiff on the Sunday back nine. I felt that he was expressing how great, heavy and meaningful this tournament is. Anyway, thank you again to all the volunteers, patrons, and Augusta for running a great tournament.
